When it comes to link building, guest posting is still one of the best way to get quality backlinks for your website. But finding the right guest post opportunities can be a big headache if you don’t know where to look. I have been doing SEO from many years and Ahrefs is the tool I use daily to find guest post sites for my own blog and for my clients also.

In this post I am going to share how I lookup guest post opportunities on Ahrefs in very simple way. No need to be expert, just follow the steps and you will find good sites in no time.

I have already earned more than 5+ thousand dollar just from guest posting and promotion, so trust me this method really work. This is the reason I always say guest posting is always going to be the first earning source for all the small blogging authors. What is Guest Posting and Why It Matter

Guest posting means you write an article for other website in your niche and in return you get a backlink to your site. This helps in two way, first it gives you a quality backlink and second it also bring some referral traffic and brand exposure. Google also like natural backlinks from relevant sites so guest posting is a win win for your SEO.

Why I Use Ahrefs for Finding Guest Post Sites

There are many tools in market but I personally like Ahrefs because of its Content Explorer and Site Explorer features. These two tools make it very easy to search thousands of websites in your niche and check their metrics like Domain Rating (DR), organic traffic and backlink profile before you reach out to them.

Step by Step Method to Lookup Guest Post Opportunities on Ahrefs

Step 1: Open Content Explorer

First login to your Ahrefs account and go to Content Explorer tool. This is the best place to start your guest post search because it search millions of pages, not just websites.

Step 2: Use Guest Post Search Terms

Now in the search box, type your niche keyword along with some common phrases that guest post pages usually have. Some search string I always use are:

• “write for us” + your keyword
• “guest post” + your keyword
• “contribute to us” + your keyword
• “become a contributor” + your keyword
• “submit a guest post” + your keyword

For example if your niche is fitness, you can search: fitness “write for us”

Step 3: Filter the Results

Once you get the results, don’t just pick any website randomly. Ahrefs give you many filter option on the left side, use them properly:

• Domain Rating (DR): Try to filter site with DR 30 and above, this way you get quality sites only
• Organic Traffic: Set a minimum organic traffic filter so you don’t waste time on dead websites
• Language: Filter by English or your target language
• One page per domain: Turn this on so you don’t see same website multiple time in the list

Step 4: Check the Website Manually

After filter, Ahrefs will show you a clean list of pages that have guest post opportunity. Now open few of them manually and check:

• Is the website still active and publishing new content
• Do they publish guest post from other author (check the author names)
• Is the niche really relevant to your website
• Do they have good design and not looking spammy

I always skip the sites that look old or not updated from long time, because backlink from dead site don’t help much.

Step 5: Use Site Explorer to Check the Metrics

Before reaching out, I also open Site Explorer and paste the website URL to double check the metrics. This help me confirm:

• Domain Rating and URL Rating
• Total backlinks and referring domains
• Organic traffic trend, is it growing or dropping
• Top pages, so I know what kind of content perform well on that site

If the traffic is dropping continuously from many months, I usually avoid that site because it might get some Google penalty.

Step 6: Make a List and Start Outreach

Once you check all the site, make a simple spreadsheet with website name, contact email, DR and traffic. This will help you track your outreach easily. After that you can send personalize email to each site asking for guest post opportunity.

Some Extra Tips from My Experience

• Don’t only depend on “write for us” search, also try “guest author” and “guest blogger” phrases
• Check the anchor text pattern of that site, if they only give backlink in author bio then decide if that is fine for you
• Sites with too many outbound links on one page usually don’t pass much SEO value
• Always read their guest post guideline page before pitching, most site have their own rules
